2014 CHRISTMAS MARKET CRUISES

A European River cruise during the holidays can be a truly magical way to get into the spirit of the season. With snow-capped towns, beloved Christmas Markets and extravagantly decorated capitals glittering with lights, it’s almost impossible to not get swept up in the enchantment and wonder that’s in the air. One of the most popular reasons to visit Europe during this time are the Christmas Markets, which first began springing up hundreds of years ago. Today, visitors can wander aisles of festively decorated stalls that feature carved nutcrackers, old-fashioned toys and dolls, delightful handicrafts and other unique gifts. Don’t forget to sample local holiday treats like decadent pastries, piping hot mulled wine, gingerbread and sausages!

Read on for more information on some of the most renowned markets.

Nuremberg Dubbed the “Little Town from Wood and Cloth,” this market has 180 wooden stalls selling baked goods, roasted bratwurst, handcrafted toys and unique gifts such as Nuremberg Plum People – folksy figurines made from dried prunes. There is a competition among the different stalls to see which one is the most beautifully decorated.

Vienna The 700-year old Christkindlmärkt in front of City Hall in the Austrian capital is a magnificent sight to behold. There are tall trees adorned with lights, festive choir music and aromas of local favorites like roasted chestnuts and cotton candy.

Strasbourg Here you will find the largest and most famous Christmas market in France, the Marchés de Noël. Founded in 1570 and located near a magnificent cathedral, it is popular among the locals when shopping for Christmas trees and decorations

Budapest With more than 100 stalls, the Budapest Christmas Market is the largest in Hungary and completely fills up Vörösmarty Square. This market differs from most other holiday markets in that it strictly enforces a handcrafted only policy. It’s the perfect place to find a unique gift for the person who has everything.

It may seem a little early to start thinking about the holidays, but with great deals available now it really is a good time to plan a river cruise getaway with AmaWaterways!

Broward County October School 4-Day Weekend Holiday Cruise!

Broward County Public Schools will have an early release on Thursday, October 23 and no school on Friday, October 24, 2014. What are you going to with your children on those days? Why not take them on a fun 4-day cruise?

Prepare to cruise like a champion aboard Carnival Victory.

Don’t miss the winning atmosphere of the South China Sea Casino – try your hand at poker, blackjack, roulette, or craps. Little winners will love Virtual Sea Arcade and play-time opportunities at one of three youth-only spaces. And for an open-air experience that brings out the winner in everyone, there’s City Sports Park, featuring miniature golf, ping pong, a jogging track and more.

Declare victory against the usual, boring vacations as you sit back and take in everything else this ship has to offer: master performances in the two show lounges, quiet time at Serenity Adult-Only Retreat or the library, and delicious food and drink practically wherever you look, all up and down the ship. When you’re cruising Carnival Victory, you’re winning the entire time!

You may board early and start enjoying your vacation.  We will depart Miami on October 23 at 4p.m. as the fun gets started on the lido deck with an amazing Sail Away party. After the party, bring your children to check out Camp Carnival, the amazing Kids Club, with fun groups for ages up to 17.

At the end of island pearls known as the Florida Keys is the surprising town of Key West, our home on day 2. Many well known writers and artists have made this historic enclave home over the years including Hemingway, Tennessee Williams and Robert Frost. Spectacular sunsets splendid Victorian surroundings make for modern day magic on the southernmost island in the U.S.

Key West Attractions & Activities
Enjoy the pleasures of a glass-bottom boat on a unique and informative eco-tour of the only living coral reef in the continental United States. It’s home to over 300 species of fish, which complete the colorful and intriguing seascape. The boats are specially designed to provide maximum viewing with minimum stress to the delicate reef environment.
• Visit the Museum of Art and History at the Custom House, a “must-see” when in Key West.
• Take a traditional trolley tour through historic Key West.
• Discover the real Key West as you make your way through the lazy back streets on a bike-tour adventure.
• Board the schooner Liberty for a relaxing sail around Key West Harbor.
• Take a stroll through Key West’s famed historic homes and gardens. Admire Casa Antigua, the former residence of Ernest Hemingway. Built in 1931, it was once a hotel, then was later rebuilt as a private home. It contains the largest courtyard in Key West.
• Marvel at the priceless treasures on a visit to the Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Museum.
• Absorb the local charm on a stroll down Duval Street, lined with quaint shops, cafés and restaurants.

On day 3, we visit Cozumel, Mexico. The crystal clear water surrounding Cozumel makes it a favorite for divers and sun-seekers from around the world. Found on the Yucatan peninsula, it is the largest of Mexico’s islands and steeped in history, tracing Mayan descendants from 300 A.D. In town, there is shopping for local crafts and dining in colorful restaurants.

Cozumel Attractions & Activities
Don’t miss the opportunity to explore the ruins of the ancient Mayan city of Tulúm, majestically perched above the turquoise Caribbean. The site was occupied as far back as 600 A.D. However, it was most densely populated around 1200 A.D. You will be struck by the pyramid-shaped El Castillo, which dominates the city from atop a forty-foot cliff. The nearby Temple of the Descending God provides equally excellent insight into the architecture of the Mayan people, who gained considerable achievements in the arts and sciences, only to decline and vanish for no apparent reason.
• Explore the underwater world of Chankanaab on a deep-sea adventure aboard the Atlantis Submarine.
• Discover what makes a dolphin so magical as you play and interact with these amazing creatures in Chankanaab National Marine Park.
• Sit back, relax, and bury your toes in the white sand of Playa del Sol beach in Cozumel. This destination offers all the food, drinks and activities you can imagine, including relaxing massages on the beach.
• Take a Jeep-safari adventure through the tropical landscape of Cozumel’s east side. Ride through sand dunes and trails for an unforgettable experience.
• Join the Fiesta party boat for a fun-filled trip to Playa del Sol, with margaritas, rum punch and a live band setting the mood for fun.
• Helmet dive in Chankanaab and trek around coral reefs to see the abundant marine life up close.
• Escape to the secluded beauty of your own private beach paradise, Passion Island, by a four person canoe or motorized tender.

Day 4, we will enjoy the Carnival Victory on our journey back to Miami. Spend the day relaxing by the pool, listening to some music and having fun. Enjoy City Sports Park and play miniature golf, ping pong or jog on the running track. With so many things to do on the Carnival Victory, you will have an amazing day and not want to go home!
